“A Resurrection of Dance” is our project to celebrate Florence + The Machine’s comeback show in Italy, at I-Days Milano festival on June 22nd, after years marked by a pandemic that severely affected the live music industry.
We have been through challenging times, dancing hopelessly while locked in our rooms, wondering when we could hold onto each other while dancing on a barrier again. We died and were resurrected somehow.
During the live performance of My Love, Florence recalls the moment when the song was written in the midst of lockdown and how it soon turned into the floor-filling anthem we all love today.
“Thank you for bringing me back to life. This song was written at a time when all venues were empty, arenas were empty, nobody could gather together and dance. What I would like to practice tonight is a resurrection of dance.”
She invites everyone to get low and then jump back up to dance fiercely to the final chorus. In this very moment we will start our traditional choreography, by raising and waving a red foulard!
Watch the video to see the exact moment you have to raise the foulard!
And we have it even customized! We are proud to carry out this project in association with Colori Vivi Sartoria, that produced a limited edition bespoke red foulard, designed by the Italian fan Asia Gera and customized with the writing “A Resurrection of Dance”.
Colori Vivi Sartoria is a social atelier that employs female refugees to produce haute couture clothing with upcycled leftover fabrics. The atelier produces “make to order” clothes and accessories influenced by different cultures, and follows handmade methods and procedures with a strong attention to sustainability and innovation. Our foulard has indeed been made out of a leftover fabric from a luxury fashion brand.

What is the inspiration behind “A Resurrection of Dance”? The project aims to blend the world of Dance Fever with Italian arts and culture – especially dance, which is both an essential component in Florence’s music and a very popular performative art in our country. Among the most famous Italian folk dances is the “pizzica”, which has ancient roots in the Southern region of Puglia and is shrouded in myth and legend. The dance was thought to have been the only cure for a tarantula bite, with the power to exorcise women who had been bitten. Nevertheless, the pizzica dance has always been a collective experience fueled by cathartic energy.
The “pizzica” inspired our choreography: just like the dancers shake the traditional red handkerchief, symbol of love and passion, we will do so during My Love to iconically portray a moment of resurrection.
Unleash your creativity! In the real Dance Fever Couture spirit, we invite you to follow the “Italian folk dances” dress code in your unique way, wearing a foulard/handkerchief or similar accessory to be waved all together (preferably red, but feel free to choose the color you like the most).
